- the student can use the simple and progressive forms of the present and past tenses, and can use the future tense
- can express basic ideas a little clearly and smoothly

- the student can use the present perfect tenses correctly
- has good sentence structure and a good vocabulary base
- can give and receive exact, detailed directions
- has only some grammatical errors

- the student can use all the tenses correctly
- making sentences and giving answers are almost automatic
- only makes a few grammatical errors
- has a good understanding of sentence structure

- the student is near native English speaker fluency
